The morning is dedicated to a guided tour of the largest medina in the world, at Fes (city guide available for ½ day). Afterwards, route towards Volubilis, a must, the largest Roman archaeological site of Morocco. On the way back to Fes, the visit to another Imperial city is necessary, Meknes, one of the most beautiful cities of Morocco.
Overnight at a hotel or ryad.
Departure towards Midelt going up the foothills of the Middle Atlas. Hike around the natural lake of Aguelmame Sidi Ali on an amazing path of transhumance borrowed by the region’s nomads: the view is stunning. The road continues through lush greenery and centuries-old cedar forests until Midelt, at the foot of the Eastern High Atlas.
Overnight and dinner at kasbah.
Crossing of the western part of the High Atlas by the pass of tizi n’Talghoumte (1907 m), one of the three passes crossing the High Atlas. Nice walk to Tamsahalte, a timeless village. The road quickly leads into the Ziz gorges and the Tafilalet palm grove. From Erfoud, the first dunes of the eastern desert appear. Arrival to Merzouga.
Dinner and overnight in kasbah, at the foot of the erg.
You can go discover the surroundings or enjoy the pool of the Kasbah in the hot hours of the day. Around 16h, departure by camel to join the camp. At the pace of the caravan, discover the largest dune space in Morocco, Chebbi erg, where the dunes rise to 150m. The day ends with a moment of pure bliss: the sunset atop a golden dune.
Dinner and overnight in a nomad camp in the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will sleep in a bed, under a khaima (traditional Berber tent).
Wake up early to admire this time the sunrise on the dunes. After a shower and a good breakfast, drive to Erfoud. Arrival at Tineghir, where the palm groves extends to the foot of the Atlas. You can walk around the cultivated fields, in the shade of the palm trees. Short detour for an immersion in the impressive gorges of Todra, one of the most imposing landscapes of Morocco. Continuation of the road of the Kasbahs to reach the Valley of the Roses.
Dinner and overnight in a gite / kasbah at Boutaghar.
Through the palm grove of Skoura, famous for its millenary kasbahs, you will reach the small village of Asseghmou, at the foot of the central High Atlas. The life on the fields punctuates the daily life of the berbers of this unique region, a very different pace and world than those you are familiar with. You have time discover the ancient medina of Ouarzazate hidden behind the Kasbah of Taourirt.
Dinner and overnight in hotel or guest-house.
On this day you will discover the Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, classified as a Unesco World Heritage site, which is regularly used to shoot movies, then the Kasbah of Telouet nestled in the heart of the Oulina Valley dear to the Majorelle painter, before going to Marrakech in the afternoon.
